WEEK-END IN DALMATIA AND ISTRIA

Three day tour (3 nights, 4 days)

Discover Split, the capital of Dalmatia, a town that developed within the walls of an old palace that once belonged to the Roman Emperor Diocletian, which is today under UNESCO protection.

The Cathedral of St. Duje was first built as an emperor’s mausoleum, and while in the old caves, you will hear the story about living during the epoch of the Roman Empire.

Zadar is a treasure of archeological monuments from Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance Period.

The new motor-way makes it easy to reach Opatija, a famous seaside resort on the Mediterranean coast. Opatija was at the peak of its development at the end of the 19th Century, when it was visited by the Austrian Emperors and Nobility. Opatija is often called the “Croatian Nice” for its charms and beauty.

The peninsula of Istria delights the visitor by its lovely landscapes, forests, vineyards, and olive groves, as well as by little charming coastal towns and villages perched atop hills. Visit the Basilica of Euphrasy in Poreč, which is under UNESCO patronage, and glance at its mosaics dating back to the Byzantine Period. When in Rovinj, have a stroll along its romantic little streets paved in stone. Your trip ends in Pula, a former Roman Colony and the oldest town on the Eastern Adriatic Coast. There you will also find a well preserved Roman Amphitheater from that period.
